All members of the resident staff are closely supervised
by members of the teaching faculty and are given increasing
responsibilities in inpatient services, the operating room,
and outpatient services. All residents become Chief Residents
in their final year of training, with experience divided
among the University of California Hospitals (Long/Moffitt
and Mount Zion), San Francisco General Hospital, and the
San Francisco Veterans Affairs Hospital.

Our faculty is successful and experienced in laboratory
research. The department's laboratories are located at Parnassus
campus, UCSF Mount Zion, Veterans Affairs and San Francisco
General Hospital. The research is well supported, funded
and supervised. Projects are conducted in the fields of:
oncology, pediatric urology, erectile dysfunction, urinary
incontinence, trauma and reconstructive surgery, infertility,
stone disease, molecular biology, and trauma. The department
is committed to supporting resident research. All residents
in training are expected to work on either an experimental
or clinical research project (usually both). Publication
and presentation of residency research activities are expected
and supported by the department.
