All services are open to the general public, unless otherwise indicated.

Urologic Oncology

Cancer Nutrition Counseling

One-on-one meetings with Greta Macaire, RD (registered dietitian) are available free to UCSF patients.

Questions that the dietitian will address include:

General nutrition guidelines for balanced nutrition

Nutrition guidelines for specific cancers

Nutrition guidelines during radiation or chemotherapy treatment

Coping with nausea and appetite problems

Difficulty with swallowing or eating

Problems with constipation or diarrhea

Food safety during cancer treatment

Supplements

Appointments are scheduled for Tuesday through Friday between 9:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M. Appointments are held in the Ida & Joseph Friend Cancer Resource Center, located at Mount Zion Medical Center, 1600 Divisadero Street, 1st floor, Room B101.

Peer Support Program

The Peer Support Program offers cancer patients the opportunity to speak with veteran patients, others who have already ‘been there.’ The goals of the program are to match cancer patients to veteran patients in order to:

provide individual support

reduce feelings of isolation, anxiety and fear

assist in the development of coping skills

help navigate the health care experience

increase a sense of hope in dealing with cancer

problems with constipation or diarrhea

food safety during cancer treatment

supplements

UCSF Ida & Joseph Friend Cancer Resource Center

The Ida & Joseph Friend Cancer Resource Center supports wellness and the healing process by providing patients, families, and others with information and treatment options, emotional support, and community resources. The Cancer Resource Center maintains a library of books and other media; provides access to the internet and specialized health databases; and offers personalized research assistance. We host diverse support groups, exercise classes, workshops and direct people to other community resources. All Cancer Resource Center programs are free.

Prostate Cancer

IMPACT

IMPACT is a state-funded program designed to improve access, counseling and treatment for Californians with prostate cancer. The program’s mission is to provide high quality prostate cancer treatment to low-income men with little or no health insurance. Symptom Management Service Lunchtime Discussion Series

An ongoing lecture and discussion series for patients and their families at the UCSF Hellen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center. This series addresses important topics about relationships, emotions, and meaning in dealing with cancer. Each interactive discussion will be facilitated by experts in the field. A light lunch will be provided for those who register. Information about courses is posted below. Please check back for future events.
