Endourology & Laparoscopy

The University of California San Francisco offers a one-year fellowship in endourology and laparoscopy under the guidance of Marshall Stoller, MD.

The fellowship offers an opportunity to gain additional experience in managing complex endourologic problems as well as urologic laparoscopy. The fellow will actively participate in all aspects of the clinically busy stone center, evaluating patients, performing operations, and teaching residents. There will be extensive exposure to percutaneous renal surgery, ureteroscopy, and cutting-edge technology. The fellow plays an integral role in the laparoscopy program and perfects skills for both extirpative and reconstructive operations. Within a year, the fellow will become comfortable performing radical nephrectomy and nephroureterectomy, pyeloplasty, donor nephrectomy, and partial nephrectomy. In addition, opportunity exists to learn laparoscopic prostatectomy, cystectomy, and complex reconstruction (e.g., augmentation cystoplasty, ileal conduit).

The fellow is expected to participate in conferences, resident didactics, and clinical research projects. In addition, the fellow helps teach the Urologic Laparoscopy course offered 5 times a year and has the opportunity to pursue both basic science and animal-based research projects. The experience is primarily based at the UCSF Medical Center, although additional education and operative exposure are available at the San Francisco General Hospital, VA Hospital San Francisco and the UCSF Comprehensive Cancer Center at Mt. Zion.
