Eric Small, MD received his Bachelor of Science degree from Stanford
University. He subsequently attended Case Western Reserve University
School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio where he graduated with
honors. While in medical school, Small completed a fellowship
in pathology. Thereafter, he undertook his post-graduate residency
training in internal medicine at the Beth Israel Hospital at Harvard
University, Boston, MA. Small completed a fellowship in hematology
and oncology at the Cancer Research Institute, University of California,
San Francisco. He received training in molecular biology and developed
an interest in prostate cancer and the mechanisms of metastasis.
On joining the clinical faculty at UCSF, Small helped to organize
the multidisciplinary Urologic Oncology Program, which he currently
co-directs with Peter Carroll, MD, MPH. Small holds joint appointments
in the Department of Urology and Department of Medicine, and is
currently Clinical Professor. In addition to co-directing the
Urologic Oncology Program, Small directs the Urologic Oncology
Research Office, coordinating over thirty active protocols for
the treatment of urologic malignancies. He is an active member
of numerous professional medical societies, including the American
Urological Association and American Society of Clinical Oncology.
Small sits on the Board of Directors for the American Prostate
Cancer Foundation. He chairs the Prostate Cancer Correlative Sciences
Working Group within the Cancer and Leukemia Group B Cooperative
Oncology Group.
