Sara J. Knight, PhD
Research Interests
Knight’s research is directed to improving the measurement
of patient preferences and comprehensive outcomes in prostate
cancer care. She is particularly interested in ethnic minority
and low socioeconomic status populations. She has developed and
evaluated methods for the measurement of quality of life, patient
involvement in and satisfaction with medical care, and patient
treatment preferences. She has also been involved in the evaluation
of new technologies (e.g., Internet, CD ROM) in treatment decision-making.
She has served as the Co-Principal Investigator of a project that
will evaluate the clinical use of a decision analytic model for
localized prostate cancer. She is the Principal Investigator on
a NCI funded project funded to develop and evaluate an Internet-based
physician education program on end-of-life care. Her recent work
with Christopher Kane, MD at UCSF and SFVAMC focuses on an innovative
approach to the assessment of patient preferences for treatment
in localized prostate cancer care.
