Pediatric Urology
An early interest in pediatric endocrinology and surgery
led to Hinman becoming one of eight founders of the Society
of Pediatric Urology in 1951, and he was president in 1961
and 1973. He has written its history in American Pediatric
Urology.
Pediatric Endocrinology
An interest in endocrinology also sparked his founding
the Endocrine Urologic Group in 1957, which in 1965 evolved
into the AUA Endocrine Forum. Hinman (now with Larry Lipshultz)
still organizes the Endocrine Forum at the American Urological
Association annual meeting.
Urologic Organizations
Hinman is a founding member of the Society of University
Urologists and was subsequently president. He was elected
Regent of the American College of Surgeons, Vice Chairman
of the Board of Regents and then Vice President of the College.
A former member of the Residency Review Committee on Urology,
he completed a six-year term on the American Board of Urology.
