Frank Hinman, Jr., MD
Research Interests
Hinman's interest in urodynamics, stemming from original studies
beginning in 1954, resulted in a workshop he coordinated and edited
in 1971 as Hydrodynamics of Micturition. With Saul Boyarsky and
Jacques Susset, he founded the Urodynamics Society, was its second
president, and has subsequently received the Society's Career
Accomplishment Award. His interest in research enabled him to
become chairman of the Committee on Research of the American Urological
Association from 1970 to 1975. His committee initiated the AUA
Scholar program, and he became a founding director of the American
Foundation for Urologic Research. Hinman has been the Urology
Representative on the Advisory Council of the National Institute
for Arthritis, Diabetes, Digestive and Kidney Diseases and, for
33 years, chairman of the UCSF Committee on Research (REAC).
