Laura Dunn, MD, earned her medical degree at UCSF and completed her postgraduate training in psychiatry at UC San Diego (UCSD) including a fellowship in geriatric psychiatry. She was a member of the psychiatry faculty at UCSD before coming to UCSF, serving as Associate Director of the UCSD Psychiatry Residency Training Program, Associate Director of the UCSD Geriatric Psychiatry Fellowship Training Program and as Assistant Director of the John A. Hartford Center of Excellence in Geriatric Psychiatry. Dunn, who holds joint appointments at UCSF in Psychiatry and Urology, serves as Director of Psycho-oncology for the UCSF Department of Psychiatry. Her research interests include empirical studies of ethical issues in clinical research (e.g., informed consent, decision-making capacity, surrogate consent for research) as well as studies of psychiatric and psychosocial issues in patients with cancer. In 2008 Dunn was elected to the Board of the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry.
